Psycholinguistic Issues of Translation, Adaptation and Validation of «The Workaholism Facet-Based Scale»

Description

In today’s world, workaholism is a tremendous and serious issue of modern society. The reason is that more and more people tend to define it not as a disease but as a benefit and a good character trait. Also, many employers encourage workaholism in their enterprises. However, it turns out that workaholism is an addictive behaviour equal to drug and alcohol addictions, which is apparently to be a destroying factor of human's life. Therefore, it is of crucial importance to detect workaholism in time. It is necessary while there is still an opportunity to prevent a person from suffering from the disease psychologically before it does not affect the individual as much as causing his mental and social difficulties. Despite the importance of assessment of workolism, there are no Ukranian questionnaires to test people with workaholism. It strengthens the given problem in Ukrainian settings. Therefore, the foreign methodology was translated. Moreover, the validation was made as well as the cultural adaption of «The Workaholism Facet-Based Scale». It was a prior task for solving the issue. The thesis highlights every step of the experimental work. The result of the research allowed creating the fully functioned version of the methodology in Ukrainian, which can be used for further investigation in psychology on this subject. The main practical implication of the research gets a deep look into the issue in the Ukrainian population and allows psychologists to assess workaholism.
