Historical approach to the «School of Salamanca» concept [Aproximación histórica al concepto «Escuela de Salamanca»]

This article raises the concept of the «School of Salamanca», attempting to clarify the validity of such a term, while at the same time presenting us with the evolution and the different contexts which this reality has weathered from the 16th to 20th Century. It would be ingenuous to think that such a term has not undergone historical changes or to forget that the very fact of resurrecting a term represents concrete interest, due to some historical or social necessities. In this way, the fundamental moments of the evolution of the concept are studied, in order to arrive at the more or less precise definition of the nineties. When we ask what is the «School of Salamanca», we must also bear in mind the historical context and the interplay of interests of both the Church and the Spanish Monarchy which have as their concrete results an Hispanic catholic mode of thought.
