There Is No Education without Vision and Projection (In Defense of Advocacy for a Philosophy of Education)

  • 1. "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University

Description

The author argues in favor of a philosophy of education as a vector of formative action, aiming at a reflexive plan in order to design a vision, an idea-based perspective able to justify, direct, and validate pedagogical practice. The philosophy of education is an integrative discipline with a metatheoretical and holistic character, which questions and reflects upon (from the viewpoint of existence, action, knowledge, values, normativity, and temporality) a number of horizons related to education: the essence and the meaning of education, the foundations of educational action, the link between education and other human practices, the outcomes of education, the values transmitted through pedagogical practices etc. It is thus that six theoretical and interdependent profiles supporting the philosophy of education are crystallized: the ontology of education, the praxeology of education, the epistemology of education, the axiology of education, the normativity of education, and the dialectics of education.
