Description

To enable collaboration across the worldwide wind lidar community, we propose a platform for the open-source design, construction, and operation of wind lidar devices, called OpenLidar. OpenLidar is intended to be a research and development platform that can be used by academics, researchers, and equipment developers, rather than replacing existing commercial devices.

OpenLidar is based on a modular lidar framework including a laser source, internal optics to form the laser light, some form of telescope and pointing optics to control the laser trajectory, a detector, signal processing equipment, safety interlocks, and communications systems.
