The power control in the republican government: from classical political theory to the current populist democracies

Description

In the face of crises in many Latin American countries, the issue of power control becomes very important. From a theoretical and qualitative point of view, the thinking of classical authors, from Aristotle to Madison, is analyzed to analyze the meaning and the form that they granted to the control of power in their republics. Then, there is the danger that the lack of control in the liberal-republican democracies can imply in terms of deriving in radical populist governments. It is concluded that the defense of political freedom requires democracies to consolidate republican principles, multiplying and strengthening mechanisms of horizontal and vertical control.
