Description

This article represents studies of originality of the image of the city in L. Semenov’s creative works. Despite the fact that L. Semenov was a poet of the nature and praised its beauty and magic, he quite often turned to the image of the city. On the border of the XIX–XX centuries a man couldn’t but see numerous large-scale changes taking place in the world. The city was transforming, technical progress was dramatically changing the status quo, which is why urban images, which can be found in the creative works of that period, are so important: they reflect the search for new forms and means in art. Images of the city help to better understand L. Semenov’s creative works and his worldview. It is obvious that the author shares his contemporaries’ perception of the city as a «predator» which lures a man and then devours him. Nevertheless, L. Semenov creates individual and distinctive image. Although the corps of poems, where the image of the city can be found, is not large, an important issue of the conflict of the Christian and the Nietzschean origins in the human soul if fully revealed in them.
