The article analyzes the conceptual framework and criteria for evaluating the so-called bipolar world. The author believes that Russia's role in the establishment of the geopolitical balance historically predetermined by idea of messianism. Rejecting the state ideology, the country can not claim any hegemony nor the role of one of the poles of the political confrontation
