Description
This presentation was given at the 2019 Pint of Science event held in the bar St. Sulpice in Montreal. Synopsis below:
In the 20th century, the academic journals got picked up by big publishers who started charging the public a lot of money to access the science. In the 21st century, it is time to take the science back by making it open. The large amounts of high quality data generated by scientists today can revolutionize the way we practice and communicate science, but in doing so we need to strike the right balance between transparency and privacy. This talk will introduce several Canadian open science initiatives that are changing the way we think and talk about science.
