Historical narratives of the Ukrainian comic book

Substantive characteristics of modern samples of the national historical and documentary graphic novel are presented. The emphasis is placed on the genre diversity of the historical narrative in the Ukrainian comic book.

The author analyzes the ideological and thematic filling and the artistic-style features of the “Crazy History of Ukraine’s Independence” written by the Kapranov brothers, a graphic novel “Will: The Will” created by the group of authors and “Legends about the missing mines”, created on the base of the play “Underground Underground” by Grigory Turenko. On their example, the author defines the peculiarities of the beginnings in the comic-culture of documentalism, which is characterized by its synthetic genres and forms. The categories “documentality”, “time” and “space” in each work are studied.

The expression of national peculiarities and Ukrainian mentality in the domestic documentary graphic works is researched from the point of view of the history representation history, and the use of storytelling techniques.

The value of the samples of comic books of Ukraine mentioned above is shown. Their relevance, peculiarity, educational and up-bringing functions are characterized. The results of the work can be used in further research of the historical narrative of the Ukrainian comic book.
