Description

  • Corresponding peer-reviewed publication

This dataset corresponds to the output files that were produced for the study reported in:

Zhou, Y.Q., Sawyer, A. H., David, C.H., and James S. Famiglietti, Fresh submarine groundwater discharge to the near-global coast, Geophysical Research Letters, 46. https://doi.org/10.1029/2019GL082749

When making use of any of the files in this dataset, please cite both the aforementioned article and the dataset herein.

Data sources

The following sources were used to produce files in this dataset:

  • The Hydrological data and maps based on SHuttle Elevation Derivatives at multiple Scales (HydroSHEDS), obtained from HydroSHEDS website http://hydrosheds.org/
  • The Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS), obtained from https://ldas.gsfc.nasa.gov/gldas/.  Model outputs used are GLDAS_MOS10_M.001, GLDAS_NOAH010_M.001, and GLDAS_VIC10_M.001

Description of files

The files in this dataset contain are described below:

  • SGD data file.xlsx.  The .xlsx file contains the following data (units are in parentheses):
    • ObjectID. Unique feature identifier in HydroSHEDS.
    • Coastal Catchment Area (km^2)
    • Coastline Length (km)
    • Longitude. Longitude of the point represents the centroid of the catchment.
    • Latitude. Latitude of the point represents the centroid of the catchment.
    • Drainage Length (km). The average distance of the coastal catchment to the coastline.
    • SGD_m2/day. Average annual fresh SGD rate for catchment (m2/day).
    • SGD_m3/day. Volumetric annual fresh SGD rate for catchment (m3/day).
  • SGD shapefile.zip  This file contains shapefile for the near globe SGD.
