Description

The objective ofthis study is to establish make an inventory of the animal and aquaculture genetic resources of Guinea-Bissau, the current situation of the characterization studies of animal and aquacultural genetic resources of Guinea-Bissau and to propose some strategic orientations for their valuation. It appears that in Guinea - Bissau, two livestock censuses were conducted in 1985 and 2009.From the census data, an estimationwas made each year using recorded species growth rates. Livestock includes cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry and other animal species. The distribution of these genetic resources on the territory is very variable from one region to another depending on the species and breeds. These genetic resources are underutilized and very little valued.ZebuGobra and Djakor? from Senegal,Charolais and Jersey from France,Gir and Neloresemens from Brazil were imported as part of breeding programs with reserved results.Fish farming is very little developed in Guinea-Bissau while fishing is the second source of foreign currency after the cashew nut. Some avenues have been identified for the valorization of these genetic resources for the benefit of the populations.
