ЛЕКСИКО-СЕМАНТИЧНІ ЗАСОБИ ВИРАЖЕННЯ КІЛЬКОСТІ У ТВОРАХ Г.Ф. КВІТКИ-ОСНОВ'ЯНЕНКА

The article is devoted to the study of the category of quantity, which was transformed from the linguistic philosophical category into the lexical-grammatical focus, thus the numeral was singled out as an independent lexical-grammatical category of words with the semantics of quantity. The topicality of the study is determined by the special interest of linguists in the problems of language units’ functioning in the works of prominent writers. The purpose of the article is to discover and describe the lexico-semantic means of the quantity representing in the works by H. F. Kvitka-Osnovianenko. It was found out that the category of number concerns practically all levels of language structure – vocabulary, word formation, morphology, syntax. The language of the outstanding Ukrainian writer was analyzed, where the main means of quantity’s expression is numeral, which is represented by the actual quantitative, ordinal and collective ones. On a wide background of literary forms the author also uses dialects. There are nouns of quantitative semantics, numeral adverbs, pronouns with quantitative meaning, quantitative-nominative compounds, prepositional nouns, repetitions of the same or different word forms in his language. The units that are traditional for the Ukrainian people and confirm the folkspeaking basis of the writer’s works are singled out.
