Database Structuring in a Multi-Level Integrated GIS Project on Marine Ecology

  • 1. Ocean University of China, College of Marine Geoscience

Description

The paper presents a methodological sketch for a building and organizing environmental database, with a case study of the Barents Sea. A specialized database summarizing the available materials and data on the geographical and environmental characteristics of the study region is being created. The derived and captured data enable comparative environmental assessments, as well as mathematical GIS modeling of the geospatial layers within the database. Organizing all data in a single database allows editing information in a real time regime, as well as to find and correct errors, to adjust the modelling process. This brief paper contributes towards the development of optimal algorithms of data structuring and organizing in a database.
