Ventral views of left hands of different species of Stumpffia of the north/northwestern clade and S. tridactyla and S. tetradactyla, showing various degrees of external reduction of digits on the right, and CT scans of the hands of the same individuals on the left. External reduction of fingers is only partly paralleled by reduction of the skeletal elements (especially in S. tridactyla; see text). Scale bar=0.5 mm. Asterisks mark right hands in mirrored view. Formulae show the number of phalanges on fingers I–IV.
