Description
The article deals with the structure of informal place names in the USA. The main structural models of multi-component nicknames of American cities and towns include: ‘Adjective + Noun’, ‘Noun + Noun’ and ‘(Attribute) Noun + of + Noun’. The most productive constituent elements of the multi-component nicknames are the words ‘city’ and ‘capital’.
