СУЧАСНІ АНГЛІЗМИ В ЛЕКСИКО-СЕМАНТИЧНІЙ СИСТЕМІ УКРАЇНСЬКОЇ ЛІТЕРАТУРНОЇ МОВИ

The article considers the problem of adoption of Anglicisms by standard Ukrainian
on the semantic level, which, in the age of globalization, has become one of the topical issues of
national linguistics. Attention is paid to modern Anglicisms that have already been adopted by
the lexical and semantic system of standard Ukrainian, are codified and frequently used in the
Ukrainians’ speech, professional in particular. The aim of the language analysis is to define the
main semantic processes that take place in the content plane of a language unit of English origin
during its adoption by the recipient language. A comparative analysis of codified language units in
the academic explanatory “Dictionary of the Ukrainian Language” in 20 volumes and the lexicographic
work “Oxford Dictionary of English” is given. The conducted analysis shows that adoption
of Anglicisms by the Ukrainian language is mainly accompanied by various semantic processes
that change the content of the foreign language unit. The most common processes mean the extension
and narrowing of the semantics of the Anglicism that is incorporated into the semantic system
of standard Ukrainian.
