Description
This is a recording of Marua Bai who sits by the Morehead river. The family is currently producing sago at a river camp. Marua tells a nzürna story. These stories are widespread in the region and have some local adaptions. The nzürna is a malevolent spirit who lives in the forest and chases and kills people. The recording was made close to Rouku village, Western Province, Papua New Guinea.

The material was recorded by Christian Döhler as part of a language documentation project for his PhD. The project was located at the School of Culture, History and Language at the Australian National University, Canberra. For the most part it was funded by the DOBES project of the Volkswagen Foundation.
