Results of Televiewer Logging in Well K-18 in Krafla High Temperature Area, NE-Iceland

  • 1. ÍSOR, Iceland Geosurvey

Description

Televiewer logging was performed in well K-18 in Krafla high temperature field at 4702180 m depth in October 2014 as a part of the IMAGE (Integrated Methods for Advanced Geothermal Exploration) European project. Results of structural analysis on grounds of the Televiewer data indicate that joints and fractures within the logged interval predominantly strike from NW-SE to N-S and dip towards NE/E. Fractures and joints observed in the Televiewer images are filled/cemented or tight/discontinuous, and in several cases partially open. No major open fractures were observed within the logged interval. Interfaces observed in the Televiewer images are considered to mark intrusion boundaries, and can be roughly divided into steeply dipping N-S and NE-SW striking interfaces (dykes) and sub-horizontal ~WNW-ESE striking, ~SSW-dipping interfaces (sill intrusions).

The latter are in some cases non planar, which may suggest that magma intruded a still unsolidified intrusive material.
