tci20111107-03 - Crow & Jackal picture task

Description
This dataset contains files recorded from Nakre Ruth Abia. She describes a set of pictures which prompt a story about a jackal and a crow. It is the commonly kknow story about a bird who steals a fish and starts eating it on top of a tree. A dog comes along and tells the bird what a wonderful voice it has. The bird is charmed and starts to sing, thereby dropped the fish to the ground. The dog picks up the fish and eats it by himself. The recording was made in Rouku village, Western Province, Papua New Guinea.

The material was recorded by Christian Döhler as part of a language documentation project for his PhD. The project was located at the School of Culture, History and Language at the Australian National University, Canberra. For the most part it was funded by the DOBES project of the Volkswagen Foundation.
