«ОТСУТСТВИЕ» КАК ПОНЯТИЕ ЛИНГВОКОГНИТОЛОГИИ

Description

The article deals with one of the topical issues of modern linguistics –systematizing and unifyingcognitive
researchterms. The author makes an attempt to reveal a new aspect in representing the
term ‗notion‘. Interdisciplinary convergence of Humanities makes it possible to ascertain that the term
‗notion‘ is integral by its nature. The author makes this conclusion on the basis of the analysis of the
term notion in correlation with the terms concept, category, notional category, and definition. The
author concludes that the notion of ‗absence‘ is one of the fundamentals in cognition, is connected
with other notions, is an integral part of term systems of various branches of science, is not stylistically
marked and is free to enter syntagmatic relations with other terms.
The notion ‗absence‘ as well as any other abstract notion is a form of cognition and is
represented by words and collocations in a natural language. In our research a hypothesis is formulated
that the notion ‗absence‘ is one of the basis notions of human thinking. In our opinion, it
refers to the main cognitive notions since it influences the preprocess of forming a human language as
a phenomenon. The notion ‗absence‘, represented by both verbal and non-verbal signs, reveals the
national mentality of native speakers that is thoroughly realized only in their discourse. The terminology unification makes it crucial that the term notion remains a classical and universal
term of theoretical studies and at the contemporary stage of cognitive science development is
an alternative term for denoting gnosiological abstractions.
The shift of the researchers‘ interests towards semantics and zones of convergence of language
components with other cognitive systems contributes to the significance of the term
‗notion‘ as an integral one. Interdisciplinary convergence becomes the main attribute of the
term ‗notion‘ in cognitive linguistics while the notion ‗absence‘ has been acquiring the status of the
basic notion in cognitive studies.
