Description

Data files from experiments in which the position of a magnetically tagged tracer particle with properties similar to that of woody biomass was tracked to determine the particle's spatial distribution over long times as it was mixed in an ambient bubbling air-fluidized bed of glass particles. Analyses of these data were presented in a publication by Daw and Halow in Ind. Eng. Chem. Res. 2018, 57, 361-370, DOI: 10.1021/acs.iecr.7b03547. Key experimental parameters were as follows:

- 5.5 cm diameter bed with porous polyethylene grid, 50 micron pore size

- 107-177 micron (144 wt. mean) diameter glass beads (2.5 g/cc) for the fluidized bed material

- 8.5 cm static bed height, Umf=0.029 m/s

-5mm spherical basswood tracer particle (1.12 g/cc) with embedded 1.6 mm diameter x 1.6 mm long cylindrical neodymium magnet

4 csv files (each representing behavior at different fluidizing gas flows) include 2 columns: 1) times (s) and 2) axial position (cm). The first 20s of each files have been removed to eliminate initial transients. File designations: 160411-1356 (U/Umf=3.0); 160411_1403 (U/Umf=2.5); 160411_1410 (U/Umf=2.1); 160411_1416 (U/Umf=1.7).
