In analogy to how it is reported for the brain by A. Luria, connections of the lowest levels of the architecture of Figure 9 are predefined. Higher-level connections are set via a learning process, concretely via a supervised learning process that was described in detail in . More recent research findings indicate that learning could also already take place at lower levels of
perception and that unsupervised learning could be crucial for setting these connections. In, first attempts have been made to develop an unsupervised learning strategy for the model.
