Zenodo-communities for EU projects

Description

Dataset of Zenodo communities associated with EU-funded projects. Only communities linked to a single EU project under either Horizon Europe, Horizon 2020, or Framework Programme 7 are included. Earlier Framework Programmes are not included, as Framework Programme 6 ended in 2006, and Zenodo was launched on May 8, 2013. The dataset was extracted from Zenodo on May 22, 2024, and contains data as of that date. It includes 2,724 communities linked to an EU-funded project.

Technical info (English)

The dataset.csv is in CSV format with UTF8 encoding.

  • id - UUID identifier of the community (the identifier is persistent).
  • created - Date of creation of the community.
  • slug - Slug identifier of the community (not persistent as it can be changed by the user).
  • url - URL of the community (the link is not persistent because the slug is not persistent).
  • title - Title of the community
  • num_records - Number of records in the community.
  • project_acronym - Acronym of the EU-funded project (from CORDIS)
  • project_id - ID of the EU-funded project (from CORDIS)
  • project_title - Title of the EU-funded project (from CORDIS)
  • start_date - Start date of the EU-funded project (from CORDIS)
  • end_date - End date of the EU-funded project (from CORDIS)
  • framework_programme - Framework Programme (from CORDIS). One of FP7 (Framework Programme 7), H2020 (Horizon 2020), HORIZON (Horizon Europe)
  • grant_doi - Digital Object Identifier of the EU-funded grant if it exists (from CORDIS).
  • user_provided - 1 if the link was asserted by an owner of the community, empty if the link was inferred.

Methods (English)

Source data

The source data for the dataset was extracted in the following manner. The list of Zenodo-communities were extracted from the Zenodo production database on 2024-05-22. The project information in the columns project_acronym, project_id, project_title, start_date, end_date, framework_programme, grant_doi was extracted from the following three datasets (downloaded on 2024-05-22):

Identification of EU project for a Zenodo-community

All communities were matches against all EU-funded projects in the three above datasets from CORDIS.
 
A community-project link was identified in the following manner. The community slugs, and project acronym where all lowercased and stripped for spaces, dashes, dots, and underscores.

A link was identified when:
  • Project id or acronym was present in the slug
  • A community owner explicitly had defined a link to a specific project.
All the identified community-project link was then manually reviewed by the dataset creator to remove wrongly identified community-project links - examples of removed links include:

Communities which used ISSN numbers (i.e. 8 numbers) as their identifier, which then match up with a project id.
  • Project acronyms which used common language words like "sense", which matched communities with common language used in identifiers, but that were not related.
  • Communities representing multiple EU-funded projects where excluded.
