Notes

This cruise and the whole SCALE programme would not have been possible without the drive and commitment of the South African polar scientific community. We are grateful to the captain and the fantastic crew of the SA Agulhas II, without whom none of the science would have been possible. The financial support of the Department of Science and Innovation, the National Research Foundation and the infrastructure support of the Department of Fisheries, Forestry & Environment are greatly acknowledged. The cruise logistics was supported by the South African Polar Research Infrastructure (SAPRI).
