Description

The paper summarizes data on diagnostics, geographical distribution, and ecology of the boreal horsefly, Hybomitra tarandina (Linnaeus, 1758), in Poland. Both published and new records indicate that H. tarandina is neither frequent nor abundant here. The species is associated with cold peat bogs and wetlands surrounding lakes, hence the possible decrease in frequency and abundance is defined as a result of the disappearance of larval habitats caused by local aridization in recent years in Poland.
