Benthesicymus brasiliensis Spence Bate 1881

Description

* Benthesicymus brasiliensis Spence Bate, 1881

A sub-cosmopolitan deep-sea species (Burkenroad 1936), which Gorny (1999) and Boschi & Gavio (2005) indicated to occur in the Atlantic Magellanic area, but without details. An exhaustive literature search reveals this is likely based on the record by Spence Bate (1888) from Challenger station 323 (35°39'S, 50°47'W), which is too far north to be considered as Magellanic or sub-Antarctic.
