Type locality. Italy, Rome.

Type host. Mus decumanus = Rattus norvegicus.

Principal hosts. Rats (Rattus) and mice of the genera Apodemus and Mus (Bregetova, 1956).

Distribution. Europe, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania (Mašán & Fenďa, 2010); Southern Kazakhstan (Senotrusova, 1987). The only known finding of M. decumani in Asiatic Russia was made in Vilyuisk, Republic of Yakutia, Eastern Siberia (Zemskaya & Korenberg, 1962).
