Embiotoca caryi Agassiz 1853
Description
Embiotoca caryi Agassiz, 1853.
Rainbow Seaperch or Rainbow Surfperch. To 30.5 cm (12 in) TL (Miller and Lea 1972). Cape Mendocino, northern California (Miller and Lea 1972) to Bahía San Carlos (29°36’N, 115°12’W), central Baja California (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California). Depth: intertidal to 50 m (165 ft) (min.: Hubbs 1921; max.: Love et al. 2005). Previously as Hypsurus caryi, we use Embiotoca based on the strong molecular and morphological evidence presented in Bernardi (2009) and Longo et al. (2018).
