Description

Eurymen gyrinus Gilbert & Burke, 1912.

Smoothcheek Sculpin. To 38.8 cm (15.3 in) TL (Lindberg and Krasyukova 1987). Seas of Japan and Okhotsk, and Pacific coast of Hokkaido, Japan, to Commander–Aleutian Chain, and Bering Sea, Alaska, to eastern Chukchi Sea (70°26’N, 164°38’W) (Mecklenburg et al. 2018), to Cook Inlet, northern Gulf of Alaska (Maslenikov et al. 2013). Benthic; depth: at least 2–180 m (7–590 ft) (min.: Chereshnev et al. 2001; max.: Panchenko et al. 2016). Mecklenburg et al. (2018), citing others, give maximum depths ranging from 400–500 m (1,312 –1,640 ft).
