A Comprehensive Bibliometric Dataset of 2,015 Faculty Members from Greek Higher Education Institutions

Description

This dataset contains comprehensive bibliometric profiles of 2,015 faculty members from Greek Higher Education Institutions, representing approximately 20% of the total academic staff population in Greece. The data was collected from 92 academic departments across 18 out of 25 Greek universities, spanning five major scientific disciplines: Computer Science, Economics/Business/Social Sciences and Humanities, Engineering, Medical Sciences, and Natural Sciences. Each faculty profile includes demographic information such as gender, academic rank, and departmental affiliation, along with unique Google Scholar and Scopus identifiers that enabled the extraction of detailed bibliometric indicators.

The bibliometric data encompasses key research performance metrics from both Google Scholar and Scopus platforms, including total publications, citation counts, citations per year, citations per paper, authorship patterns, and derived comparative ratios between the two citation databases. Data collection was performed using the Publish or Perish application supplemented by manual searches when necessary. The dataset underwent rigorous quality control procedures, excluding profiles lacking proper identification credentials and removing statistical outliers with fewer than 5 or more than 800 publications, or fewer than 10 citations in Google Scholar.

The final sample provides a geographically diverse representation, including faculty from both peripheral and central urban institutions, with balanced coverage across different academic ranks from Assistant to Full Professor. This dataset offers valuable insights into the research landscape of Greek academia and can support comparative studies of scholarly productivity, collaboration patterns, and citation behaviors across different disciplines and institutional contexts within the Greek higher education system.
