Raw data for the analysis of bet hedging via intermediate hatching fractions: demographic evidence from rotifer diapausing egg banks

This repository contains raw data on the abundance of diapausing eggs of the rotifer species Brachionus plicatilis in the sediment banks of eight lakes and ponds in eastern Spain, the results of hatching experiments performed on diapausing eggs isolated from the uppermost 2 cm of sediment of each pond, and data on the presence of water in these locations for the period 1984–2001. It is structured in the following three files:

1. Data on the abundance of total diapausing eggs (nunmber of eggs/cc) of B. plicatilis at different depths (0-10 cm) in three cores of sediment of each of the studied ponds. For more info on the original source of data see García-Roger et al. (2006a; doi:10.1016/j.jembe.2006.05.009)

2. Data on the number of ‘healthy-looking’ diapausing eggs of B. plicatilis and the number of hatchlings obtained in the uppermost 2 cm of sediment from three cores of sediment at each pond studied. 3. Data on the number of pixels (30 m x 30 m) containing water obtained from LANDSAT satellite images for the period 1984-2001 for the studied ponds. The LANDSAT scene code and extent for each study location, along with the flooded area (number of pixels in which water was detected using NMWDI) and the date.
