Erasing the Line: Between Land and Water

Description

"Apagar a Linha: Entre Terra e Água" was an exhibition held from October 26 to December 3, 2023, at the Museu do Porto – Palacete dos Viscondes de Balsemão, as part of the Porto Design Biennale 2023. Curated by architect Ivo Poças Martins, the exhibition explored the fluidity of natural and political boundaries through the lens of water. Focusing on the Cabedelo do Douro—a dynamic estuarine zone where the Douro River meets the Atlantic Ocean—the exhibition questioned how we define and represent territories in a world where everything is interconnected and constantly shifting.

The exhibition featured works that challenged the notion of fixed lines and borders, emphasizing the continuous movement and transformation inherent in natural landscapes. Through various artistic and design interventions, "Apagar a Linha" invited visitors to reconsider the ways in which we perceive and demarcate space, particularly in relation to water's role as both a connector and a divider.
