Analisi d'ADN mitocondrial de cinc especies de quiropters de les Illes Balears

Description

(Uploaded by Plazi for the Bat Literature Project) MITOCHONDRIAL DNA ANALYSIS OF FlVE SPECIES OF BATS FROM THE BALEARlC ISLANDS. The mitochondrial DNA of Myotis myotis, Myotis nattereri, Myotis capaccinii, Plecotus austriacus, and Miniopterus schreibersii have been analyzed to evaluate the degree of genetic differentiation between the Balearic and continental European populations and to determine their species with certainty. The results confirm the presence of Myotis myotis and show a high degree of genetic similarity between individuals of the same species, whether from the Balearic islands or the European continent. In Majorca no presence was observed of Myotis punicus, a species present in other Mediterranean islands. The DNA of the Majorcan Myotis nattereri is close to the of the Myotis nattereri of the Iberian peninsula, presently considered Myotis escalerai. The absence of significant genetic differences between the populations of Miniopterus schreibersii in Majorca, Menorca and Catalonia is especially interesting, as significant morphological differences have been observed between tbem. Tbese differences may be due to environmental factors, since there is an excbange ofindividuals between Majorca and Menorca, therefore a gen flow exists between the populations of the two islands.
