Description
Model description:
Digital outcrop model of the beach in Diabasbukta, Northern Bellsund, Svalbard. The model shows a black doleritic sill complex to the left (West) and an outcrop section which overturned and dipping steeply to the West, due to the influence of the West Spitsbergen Orogeny. The outcropping section covers the Early Carboniferous Orustdalen Formation, the early-Late Carboniferous to Early Permian Treskelodden Formation and the Late Permian Kapp Starostin formation, with the oldest rocks towards the left (West) and the younger rocks towards the right (East).

Through Svalbox we aim to take geoscientific research and education to the next level – with the simple motto of placing all key information and data sets in their correct spatial position. We bring modern technology, in particular cost-effective digital outcrops, to complement more than 200 years of geoscientific research on Svalbard. Finally, Svalbox provides a sustainable platform for sharing results, workflows and teaching material with the wider geoscientific community.
