El texto analiza la figura del pintor Felipe Checa Delicado (Badajoz, 1844-1906) como uno de los principales representantes de la pintura extremeña de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. Se destaca su papel central en la configuración del costumbrismo regional y su estrecha vinculación con el ambiente cultural de Badajoz. La obra revisada se presenta como el primer estudio exhaustivo sobre su trayectoria, basado en fuentes hemerográficas, documentación municipal y el análisis directo de su producción artística, conservada en el Museo de Bellas Artes de Badajoz y en colecciones privadas. La investigación contextualiza la obra de Checa dentro de los géneros pictóricos del momento, especialmente la pintura de historia, el retrato, el bodegón y la pintura costumbrista, donde destacó por sus escenas satíricas y anticlericales, en diálogo con la literatura de Galdós y Clarín. También se examina su papel como profesor y crítico de arte en el Ateneo de Badajoz, así como la creación de la Academia Municipal de Dibujo y Pintura. El estudio concluye que Checa fue una figura clave para entender la identidad artística local y la evolución del realismo pictórico en Extremadura.

Abstract (English)
The reviewed text analyzes the painter Felipe Checa Delicado (Badajoz, 1844–1906) as a leading figure in Extremaduran painting during the second half of the 19th century. It highlights his central role in shaping regional costumbrista painting and his close involvement in the cultural life of Badajoz. The study represents the first comprehensive scholarly research on the artist, based on period press sources, municipal documentation, and the examination of works preserved in both the Museum of Fine Arts of Badajoz and private collections. The analysis situates Checa within the dominant artistic genres of his time, including history painting, portraiture, still life, and especially costumbrista scenes, where he stood out for the satirical and anticlerical tone of his compositions, echoing the literary approaches of Galdós and Clarín. The text also explores his contribution to artistic education as founder of the Municipal Academy of Drawing and Painting, as well as his activity as an art critic associated with the Ateneo of Badajoz. The study concludes that Checa played a key role in the formation of local artistic identity and in the development of realist and genre painting in Extremadura during the late 19th century.
