Feed and Gut Health: A Short Review

Creators

Description

Abstract

This abstract explores the relationship between feed composition and gut health in fish. Soybean meal (SBM) is commonly used as a fish meal replacement due to its high protein content, but excessive inclusion leads to reduced feed intake and compromised gut morphology. In contrast, insect-based diets show promise in maintaining growth performance and altering gut microbiota in species like Siberian sturgeon. However, variations exist in gut histomorphology and microbial composition between different insect meals. Understanding these interactions is crucial for optimizing aquafeed formulations and enhancing fish health. This abstract highlight the complex interplay between feed ingredients and gut health parameters in aquatic species.
