Description

Dorylaimus carteri Bast. lugdunensis (de Man). (Fig. 7.)

Dorylaimus lugdunensis de Man, 1884, p. 182, pl. xxx, fig. 127.

Dorylaimus carteri Bast. lugdunensis (de Man) Micoletzky, 1922.

To judge by the numerous finds of this long-tailed, easily recognizable species, which is smaller a n d more slender than D. agilis, it is a very common inhabitant of the soil of Jan Mayen.

The male, at first discovered a n d described b y Steiner (1916 (3) pp. 99-100), is probably very rare. Among forty - seven females from different localities only a single typical male was f o u n d in a sample from B2 (21). Besides the anal papilla, situated a litt,le in front o f the anus, there is a row of twelve v e r y small papillae, partly situated at unequal distances from each other.
