Formation PAYS How to prepare appealing and effective abstracts and posters for scientific communication

Description

How to prepare appealing and effective abstracts and posters for scientific communication

Speaker: Pierre Mégevand, professeur Hôpitaux universitaires de Genève

Learning to communicate is an essential part of the professional training of scientists. Two of the most common means by which scientists share their work with their peers are abstracts and posters. As is true for communication in general, form influences substance: an effective abstract and an appealing poster facilitate the transmission of scientific knowledge; conversely, great scientific work can be undermined by poor presentation. The objective of this teaching session is to learn what makes an abstract and a poster effective in order to improve scientific communication.

Because English is the lingua franca of scientific communication, the teaching materials and the teaching session are in English.

Teaching objectives:

  • Understand what an abstract and a poster are and the importance they play in scientific communication
  • Learn what makes an abstract and a poster appealing and effective
  • Identify tools and resources to prepare your own abstract and poster
  • Identify resources to master English for scientific communication
