Description

3D model of a round "kinga" measuring 4.5 cm in diameter and 0.9 cm thick. Its parts are fastened together with wire. The object is decorated with engravings and cut outs and gilding in some places. It dates to just before the 14th century and is probably of Icelandic origin. Physical object held at the National Museum of Iceland item nr: 7229, found at Skriðuklaustur prior to the excavation. https://sarpur.is/Adfang.aspx?AdfangID=330107 Part of the Skriðuklaustur Monastery 1550 reconstruction. Digitisation by Open Virtual Worlds, a research team within the School of Computer Science, University of St Andrews, in cooperation with the Gunnar Gunnarsson Institute at Skriðuklaustur and the National Museum of Iceland. 3D digitisation was done by Catherine Cassidy and Iain Oliver with archaeological assistance provided by Skúli Gunnarsson.
