Wetland birds of the lake Basiv Kut in Rivne city. - V.P. Ilchuk, V.O. Hedziuk, P.M. Hryniuk. - Berkut. 30 (2). 2021. - Lake Basiv Kut is located in southern part of the city (50.5960 N, 26.2469 E) on the river Ustia. Its area is 104 ha. Research has been conducted since 2004, more regularly we investigated the lake during 2009–2021. In total, 69 waterfowl and water bird species were registered. 11 of them are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine (2009). Two more species (Velvet Scoter and Smew) were recorded three decades earlier. During the spring migration, the reservoir is important for birds of the Laridae family. We observed not only daytime accumulations on the lake, but also the arrival of gulls for the night from the landfill. The list of breeding birds of the lake includes 19 species, of which Black-headed Gull has stopped nesting. During the last decade, such factors have had a negative impact on the breeding populations: the reduction of wetland and coastal vegetation, increasing its fragmentation and the appearance of private buildings on a large part of the coast. The positive aspects are the complete absence of such serious impacts of anthropogenic activities as burning, reed mowing and hunting. In the late autumn and winter periods, the most important factor for the stay of birds on the lake is the presence of unfrozen water areas. [Ukrainian].
