Visualizing the mathematics behind

VOLT (Virtual Open Labs for Teaching) is an academic initiative dedicated to the development and distribution of Open Educational Resources (OER) specially dedicated to Engineering education within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

Our philosophy unlike traditional circuit simulators (e.g., SPICE), which often operate as "black boxes," VOLT tools are designed to make the underlying mathematics tangible.

We believe that engineering intuition stems from a deep understanding of the equations governing physical phenomena. Therefore, our virtual labs employ dynamic graphing tools (such as Desmos, GeoGebra, or Python) to allow students and educators to interact directly with mathematical model parameters in real-time.

Objectives:

  1. Visualization: Transforming abstract equations into explorable dynamic behaviors.

  2. Accessibility: Providing lightweight, web-based, shareable, Open Access tools.

  3. Transparency: Fostering scientific reproducibility by providing access to the source code of all simulations.

Areas of interest: The collection covers fundamental and advanced topics, including:

  • Circuit analysis (time and frequency domains).

  • Signals and systems.

  • Electromagnetism.
  • Semiconductor devices.

  • Control theory and automation.
