The SMART NEtworks and ServiceS for 2030 (SMARTNESS) is a FAPESP Engineering Research Center (ERC) dedicated to advancing state-of-the-art research in computer networks and digital services, with a strategic vision set for the year 2030. Bringing together academic institutions, industry, and innovation-driven stakeholders, SMARTNESS seeks to foster impactful scientific and technological developments in collaboration with global research communities in networking and cloud computing.

 

Mission

SMARTNESS aims to address the major challenges posed by the evolution of Internet infrastructure in the face of emerging technologies such as 5G and the development of 6G. The project focuses on how to design and operate cloud and network infrastructures capable of supporting the next generation of Internet-scale services and applications. Through a methodology built on interconnected Research Strands (RS) and focused Scientific and Technological Advancements (STA), SMARTNESS promotes interdisciplinary collaboration to generate high-impact solutions for complex societal and industrial use cases—driving innovation and excellence in research toward 2030.
