The project

MOBI-TWIN is an EU-funded project dedicated to unraveling the dynamics of spatial mobility and its significant impact on European Union regions. The MOBI-TWIN project aims to comprehend the intricate patterns of mobility and leverage this knowledge to foster regional prosperity.

MOBI-TWIN key areas of focus include analysing the factors that shape human mobility behaviour, taking into account the influence of Twin Transitions on regional attractiveness. The project also examines the evolving equilibrium among different forms of spatial mobility and its implications for EU regions. Through advanced modeling techniques, the project assesses the consequences of changing mobility patterns on demographics, society, welfare systems, and the labor market. Additionally, the project envisions tailored strategies that capitalize on positive outcomes, promoting sustainable development and maximizing benefits for EU regions.

With special attention given to the disruptions caused by COVID-19 and Brexit, MOBI-TWIN strives to address the challenges and opportunities arising from the evolving freedom of movement between EU regions.

Objectives of the project

  1. UNDERSTAND patterns, drivers and forms of spatial mobility during Twin Transition.
  2. REDEFINE regional attractiveness under the Twin Transition and develop typologies of EU regions.
  3. ANALYSE the effects of spatial mobility on EU demographics, society, welfare systems and labour market using microsimulation and agent-based modelling.
  4. INITIATE an open policy discussion and engage stakeholders and society on the effects of Twin Transition on spatial mobility for addressing regional inequalities
    across EU regions.
  5. MAXIMISE MOBI-TWIN'S impact by disseminating project’s outcomes to a wide audience and engage multiple types of stakeholders.
