This community is a companion to the fourth edition of Learning to Teach Design and Technology in the Secondary School (Hardy, 2021), with downloadable powerpoint slideshows written by a selection of chapter authors.
This community is curated by Matt McLain (Liverpool John Moores University), author of Chapter 13, and Alison Hardy (Nottingham trent University), the editor and author of Chapters 1 & 15.
The fourth edition of Learning to Teach Design and Technology in the Secondary School (Hardy, 2021) will give you a vision of what design and technology is and could be. It is available to pre-order on the Routledge website and other book shops.
This new edition, edited by Dr Alison Hardy, will be published in September 2020, and builds on the previous three editions that were edited by Gwyneth Owen-Jackson. The book is aimed at student teachers, although may also be useful to newly qualified teachers and teachers in school who are mentoring students.

This suite of teaching resources has been produced to supplement the book and is aimed at teacher educators working in university and school based initial teacher education settings.
The first set of resources is comprised of 10 PowerPoint slideshows written by chapter authors, published in September 2020. We encourage tutors to use the resources to supplement students’ pre-reading of the book before seminars, including the use of the tasks incorporated into each chapter. Each slideshow uses ‘big questions’ to stimulate discussion. It is important to note that they do not summarise the whole chapter, but highlights key concepts and principles.
