The journal “Elektronnaya obrabotka materialov” was founded in 1965 under the initiative of academician B. R. Lazarenko, an outstanding expert in electrical discharge machining.

The journal “Elektronnaya obrabotka materialov” is a non-profit and non-commercial scientific journal, which publishes open access articles under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) License that permits use, distribution and reproduction in any medium so long as the original work is properly cited.

The journal “Elektronnaya obrabotka materialov” is a peer-reviewed scientific journal. It publishes both original and review papers on topical theoretical themes and practical areas of application of electroerosion and electrochemical methods of materials processing; on physical and chemical methods of obtaining macro- micro- and nano-scale materials and investigations of their properties; on electrical processes in technology, chemistry, in the process of treatment of biological products and foodstuffs; on electromagnetic fields in biological systems.

Under the title “Surface Engineering and Applied Electrochemistry”, the English version of the journal, is issued by the Publishing House Allerton Press, Inc., with the participation of MAIK "Nauka/ Interperiodica". The English version of the journal is distributed by Springer, with the online version via the INTERNET. The English version of the journal has a 2012 impact factor 0.289; it is available online at http://www.springer.com/engineering/production+engineering/journal/11987.
