FLAME, the fire weather research group of the METEO Unit of the National Observatory of Athens, conducts high-impact basic and applied research to develop new and improved services and tools supporting safer and more effective wildfire management and suppression, with particular emphasis on:
✔ Weather and climate influence on wildfires.
✔ Early warning of extreme fire weather and potential for pyroconvection.
✔ Assessment of landscape flammability and actual fire weather conditions.
✔ Understanding and predicting fire-atmosphere interactions.
✔ Improving real-time coupled fire-atmosphere forecasting.
