ESiWACE stands for Centre of Excellence in Simulation of Weather and Climate in Europe.
The “Centre of Excellence in Simulation of Weather and Climate in Europe” was funded by the European Commission to substantially improve the efficiency and productivity of numerical weather and climate simulations.
The CoE prepares the European weather and climate community to use future exascale systems in a co-design effort involving modelling groups, computer scientists, and the HPC industry. It supports the end-to-end workflow of global Earth system modelling. The global high-resolution simulations will open up new research opportunities and perspectives.
The ability to efficiently run high-resolution Earth System models on EuroHPC supercomputers was achieved during the first and second phases of the project, ESiWACE and ESiWACE2.
The project's third phase, ESiWACE3, focuses on supporting the community to reach a higher readiness level regarding exascale supercomputing and knowledge transfer between the different Earth system modelling centres and teams across Europe.
The projects ESiWACE and ESiWACE2 received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreements No 675191 and 823988. The project ESiWACE3 is funded by the European Union. This work has received funding from the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (JU) under grant agreement No 101093054.
