Originally, the fdm-bayern community was created by eHumanities - interdisziplinär, an academic infrastructure project funded by Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst (Bavarian Ministry of Science and the Arts). In the first years its focus was the collection of publications, documents and other results of the eHumanities project. This origin can still be seen in the URL of the community.
After the end of the funding phase of the project, the community was rededicated to serve as a central place to collect materials and results in the field of research data management from all Bavarian higher education organizations. The materials include, for example, guidelines, handbooks, course notes, presentations or project reports. The Zenodo community is the companion of the fdm-bayern.org website.
The community is jointly administrated by the university libraries of Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, as well as by the LMU Center for Digital Humanities.
