Bigpicture: Accelerating AI in Pathology

Bigpicture, funded by the EU Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI), is a public-private partnership aimed at transforming pathology by making data accessible that help develop and train AI algorithms. By bringing together a broad network of partners such as academic institutions, small and medium-sized enterprises, public organizations, and pharmaceutical companies, Bigpicture is set to revolutionize the field of pathology.

Why are we doing this?

The use of AI in pathology will play a major role in refining our knowledge of diseases, leading to better treatments and more accurate diagnoses. It can also streamline pathology processes, making them more efficient and reducing the need for animal research.

How are we making this happen?

By building an international, inclusive community of experts from various fields. This team, which includes pathologists and software scientists from both public and private sectors, will ensure that high quality data are widely accessible and in compliance with ethical and legal legislation. Our approach is collaborative and open, ensuring that everyone from academic researchers to industry professionals can contribute to and benefit from our work.

What are we creating?

We are developing the leading European repository of high-quality, annotated pathology data. This repository will be continuously updated and enhanced, providing the foundation for the development of advanced AI tools in pathology.

Bigpicture is paving the way for a future where AI significantly improves medical research efficiency and practice, leading to better outcomes for all. Our values of inclusivity, catalyzing innovation, trustworthiness, and collaboration guide everything we do, ensuring we build a diverse community, accelerate AI solutions, maintain reliable frameworks, and foster long-term partnerships.
