What if the solution for a chronic disease lies in our ocean, rivers, or lakes?

The goal of the Algae4IBD project is to develop commercial products fort he prevention and treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) using bioactive compounds from larger unexploited organisms: macroalgae, microalgae and cyanobacteria. These organisms have been identified as promising sources of compounds with antioxidant or anti-inflammatory bioactivities. Algae, their molecules or medicines developed from them can provide protection against IBD for which there is still no effective cure.

The Algae4IBD team is studying algae and their bioactivites, while guaranteeing the preservation of algae's biodiversity. They are establishing novel processing protocols with the aim to produce high-quality bioactive compounds in GMP grade and at lower costs.
